Start Early

  • Do not procrastinate
  • Develop a list of potential donors and how much you will ask each of them to donate. Your list should include friends, family, co-workers, etc.
  • Inspire Support! Ask people who you know have been affected by cancer to support you in this endeavor. Share their story on your personal fundraising page!

Educate Prospective Donors

  • Share the achievements and goals of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship and The Wellness Community through your personal fundraising page.
  • Click here to learn more about the organizations’ mission and to download information.

Send Personalized Fundraising Letters

  • Create a solicitation letter to send to prospective donors, be sure to include your personal stories and motivations for your support of Breakaway from Cancer.
  • Email the letter to friends and family through your personal fundraising site.
  • Follow up with phone calls to friends or family that have not responded to your letter.

Ride with Team Columbia athletes and Raise Funds for Breakaway from Cancer®

Sunday, February 8, 2009 •Thousand Oaks, CA

Join Team Columbia athletes for the 2009 Breakaway from Cancer™ fundraising ride in Thousands Oaks, CA. The Breakaway from Cancer™ charity ride, sponsored by AEG to benefit non-profit partners the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, the Patient Advocate Foundation, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer and The Wellness Community, will feature a 25 or 50 mile course and finish line festivities!

All participants are required to raise a minimum amount of $75.  Breakaway from Cancer™ event fundraisers will all be eligible for many exciting incentives. See below for specific event incentives.

Registration, without the requirement for fundraising, will be available for children 13-16 years of age for a $25 fee.

Fundraising Incentives:


 
  • $75: Minimum fundraising includes ride entry, t-shirt and post-ride lunch.
  • $250: Breakaway from Cancer jersey.
  • $500: Team Columbia jersey autographed by George Hincapie and ATOC Team Columbia athletes.
  • $750: A private ride with Bob Roll on Saturday, February 7th.
  • $1,500: Access to a special “Meet and Greet” with Team Columbia riders before the chatiry ride on Sunday, February 8th and the opportunity to start in 1st wave with ATOC Team Columbia athletes at ride on Sunday, February 8th.
  • $2,500: 2 VIP passes to the BFC Charity Evening on Saturday, February 7th, which includes a special “Meet and Greet” Reception with Team Columbia athletes prior to the event.
  • $5,000: Invitation to a private ATOC Team Dinner in Santa Clarita on Friday, February 20*, and 2 VIP Hospitality passes for  either the ATOC Stage 8 Pasadena finish* or the ATOC Stage 7 Time Trial in Solvang*.
  • 2nd highest fundraising individual and guest: Motorcade ride on one stage (TBD) of the 2009 ATOC and a signed race leader’s jersey by the current Amgen Tour of California Leader following that stage.**
  • The individual who raises the most money: a 2009 Giant TCR Advanced SL2 Road Bike.**

* Quantities are limited to top 6 fundraisers
** Minimum of $7,500 fundraising to qualify


How to raise $150 in one work week!

Day 1

Start by sponsoring yourself for $30. Set up your personal web site and email your friends and family to sponsor you

Day 2

Ask three family members to sponsor you for $10 each.

Day 3

Ask three friends to contribute $10 each.

Day 4

Ask three co-workers to sponsor you for $10 each.

Day 5

Ask three neighbors to contribute $10 each.
