- Develop a list of potential donors and how much you will ask each of them to donate. Your list should include friends, family, co-workers, etc.
- Inspire Support! Ask people who you know have been affected by cancer to support you in this endeavor. Share their story on your personal fundraising page!
Educate Prospective Donors
- Share the achievements and goals of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship and The Wellness Community through your personal fundraising page.

Send Personalized Fundraising Letters
- Create a solicitation letter to send to prospective donors, be sure to include your personal stories and motivations for your support of Breakaway from Cancer.
- Email the letter to friends and family through your personal fundraising site.
- Follow up with phone calls to friends or family that have not responded to your letter.

Ride with George Hincapie and Raise Funds for Breakaway from Cancer™
Sunday, February 8, 2009 • San Francisco, CA
Join 11-time Tour de France veteran and 3-time Amgen Tour of California veteran, George Hincapie for the 2009 Breakaway from Cancer™ fundraising ride in San Francisco. CA. The Breakaway from Cancer™ charity ride, sponsored by Amgen to benefit non-profit partners the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, the Patient Advocate Foundation, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer and The Wellness Community, will feature a 25 mile course and finish line festivities including interactive exhibits from the Exploratorium!
All participants are required to raise a minimum amount of $75. Participants that reach this minimum will receive a custom Breakaway from Cancer™ cycling jersey!
Registration, without the requirement for fundraising, will be available for children 13-16 years of age for a $25 fee.

Course description
The course starts off from Marina Green through the Presidio with beautiful views and fun landscape. Then the ride follows the Pacific Coast south around Lake Merced and back up the coast through Golden Gate park and more of the Presidio before arriving back at Marina Green. The course map will be available soon.
Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the ride starts at 8 a.m. at Marina Green.
Fundraising Incentives:
- All fundraisers who reach $250 of funds raised will receive a Breakaway from Cancer™ jersey autographed by George Hincapie.
- The first 10 fundraisers to reach $750 of funds raised will receive 2 hospitality passes for the Santa Cruz finish of the Amgen Tour of California.
- All fundraisers who reach $1,000 of funds raised will receive access to a special meet and greet with George Hincapie before the ride on Sunday, February 8, 2009.
- All fundraisers who reach $2,500 of funds raised will have the opportunity to start in the first wave of the ride with George Hincapie.
