Meet the national Breakaway from Cancer® ambassadors. These advocates show their commitment to empowering patients with valuable education, resources and hope
An ambassador for Breakaway from Cancer since 2007, actor Patrick Dempsey is passionate about providing free support, education and wellness services to anyone affected by cancer. In 2008, he founded The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at the Central Medical Center- the same hospital where Patrick was born and his mother received her cancer treatment.
Dempsey continues to remain actively involved with Breakaway from Cancer and helps spread the word about the importance of available resources for those whose lives are touched by cancer.
During Joan Lunden's recent battle with breast cancer, the journalist and television host committed herself to educating women about the importance of screening and early detection. Through her advocacy she inspired others to protect their own health. Lunden opened up to the public about her personal journey with the hopes that she could offer support and inspiration and provide a better understanding of the cancer treatment process. In 2015, Lunden was named honorary Breakaway from Cancer Champion. She hopes to help bring awareness to the resources available to those impacted by cancer.
Katherine Kelly Lang
Actress Katherine Kelly Lang lost her father, grandfather and grandmother all to colon cancer and her maternal grandmother to lung cancer. Having witnessed firsthand the struggles that cancer patients face, with Breakaway from Cancer, Lang hopes to help those fighting cancer by providing them with information about where to turn for assistance.
Lang sells a beautiful line of silk kaftans and exclusive Breakaway from Cancer bracelets. A portion of the funds from the sale of her products go to the four Breakaway from Cancer nonprofit partner organizations.
